Description

Durham light infantry ; Silver Medal ; British Armed Forces
Weight : 17.9 Grams
Note : The Durham Light Infantry was a British Army light infantry regiment that existed from 1881 to 1968. It served in various conflicts and locations, including during the First and Second World Wars.
Regarding the specific connection to India, the Durham Light Infantry did serve in India at different times:
The 2nd Battalion landed in India in 1887 and remained there for 15 years. During this time, they were stationed in locations like Poona and Mandalay.
The 1st Battalion was also stationed in India from 1902 and remained there throughout the First World War.
During the Second World War, the 2nd Battalion fought in the Burma Campaign and played a role in the Battle of Kohima, India, in 1944.
Based on the inscription “II” on the medal, it likely relates to the 2nd Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry.
