Struck at Mumbai in the fourth regnal year, Weight : 11.54 Grams

Obverse: Sikka Zad Dauran-i-Janishin King James the second,
Reverse: Zarb Mumbai sanah julus 4 Angrez Shahi.
Note : Only a few specimens are known to this date.
According to NYINC 2007 sale where a similar specimen appeared for USD ten thousand states as follows ?Perhaps only the third known specimen. The first Rupee of this type was published by John Deyell (A Mughal Style Rupee of the East India Company In the Name of King James the Second, The Journal of Academy of Indian Numismatics and Sigillography, vol III, pp.57- 60, Indore 1980); the second one was published by P.P. Kulkarni (A Journey from Bombaim to Mumbai, pp.9-29, Bombay 2004). The Charter of King James II of 12th April 1686 gave express permission to coin money by stating: ?and further we do for us our Heirs and Successors hereby give and grant unto the said Governour and Company their Successors and Assigns for ever full power License and authority to Coin in their Forts any species of money usually Coined by the Princes of these Countries only and so as the Moneys to be coined by the said Company or their Order be agreeable to the Standards of the said Princes Mints both in weight and fineness. And that they do not make or coin any European Money or Coin whatsoever and that all money or Coins so to be coined as aforesaid and no otherwise shall be currant in any City Town port or place within the Limits of the same Charters or Letters patents?. The above coin was minted shortly after this power was granted to the Company.?
