Description
Gwalior State ; Daulat Rao Scindia (1794-1827) ; Silver rupee ; INO Akbar II ; RY 5 ; Daulatgarh mint ; double sword on reverse ; Weight : 11.07 Grams ;
Nearly Extremely fine ; Very rare ;
Note : Rahatgarh is located in Sagar district and commands a strategic position on the road from Bhopal to Sagar. In early 19th century, a Muslim courtier of Bhopal took charge of the fort and was part of Bhopal princely state. He gradually refused to pay tribute either to the Scindias or to Bhopal. Daulat Rao Scindia personally besieged the fort in 1807 and won it on 14 November 1807. He renamed it ‘Daulatgarh’ after himself. Daulatgarh is one of the rarest mints of Gwalior state. It appears to have run only for a very short time as issues of only RY 4 to 7 are known.
