Obverse : In Persian ; the Gobind shahi couplet, “Degh Te’gh Fateh Nusarat Be’ dirang,Ya’ft Az Nanak Gur(u) Gobind Singh’ (Degh = signifies Munificence (exceptional generosity) Tegh = Sword signifies Strength and Power, Fateh = Victory as obtained by the grace of Guru Gobind Singh through (the spirit ual succession from Guru) Nanakt ;
Reverse : In Persian, “Zarb Khitta Kashmir, Samvat Year Date .” (Struck in the District of Kashmir. Vikram Samvat Year Date is at the right of the Leaf symbol.
Historical Note : Diwan Moti Ram went on emergency leave to attend the last rites of his young son, Commander Diwan Ram Dayal, who had unfortunately died at the Battle of Hazara against the Afghans. Subsequently, Diwan Moti Ram, who was grief stricken went on a pilgrimage to the city of Kashi (now known as Varanasi), where for some time he lived the life of a hermit.
