Description

Description

Kushan empire ; Huvishka (ruled c. 155-189 AD)
Obverse: Diademed king squatting, his head right and one arm raised, with traces of Bactrian legend around
Reverse: Solar deity Mithra standing left, his hand raised in benediction, with tamgha at left and deposits at right
This is a coin type we rarely see – from the Kushan mint in Mathura. Huvishka’s squatting posture here is different from the normal style – his knees point in opposite directions, giving him a more natural posture than the rigid seating style seen in Huvishka’s normal squatting type.
An interesting and scarce specimen “SAVE HERITAGE SAVE COINS”
