HISTORICAL NOTE : A distinguished and increasingly sought-after Indian military medal, the Videsh Seva Medal (VSM) with Sudan clasp represents qualifying service rendered by Indian Armed Forces personnel outside India.
Instituted in 1960, the Videsh Seva Medal was awarded to eligible personnel for recognised overseas service. The medal is distinguished by a 32 mm clasp bearing the name of the country or area in Hindi identifying the location associated with the qualifying service.
